Paint in Water - Mark Mawson, Photographer

Filed under: people who's creativity makes me envious. Photographer Mark Mawson shoots these amazing images of paint drops into water using high speed cameras. I love the colors and the shapes, the work has an ethereal quality to it - especially watch the video. Gorgeous stuff....

Amsterdam Light Festival

Y'all had to know I was going to blog this....

Pretty lighting installations viewed at night = slam dunk. I would have loved to be able to see the Amsterdam Light Festival in person, I'll have to schedule that into a future trip (pun intended, this is Amsterdam we're talking about.) I already have visions of a waterway art installation that would be fabulous, if extremely expensive, should anyone want fund ;)

LED Bulb Maze

I was attracted to this at first glance as an event entry idea - what a great way to disrupt your audience and change their frame of view before they reach your primary event floor.

This installation at Belém Cultural Centre in Lisbon, Portugal was (of course) designed to showcase IKEA's new line of LED bulbs - a noteworthy development in itself. Put me down as in support of art AND energy efficiency.

Flower House by Javier Senosiain, Architect

It's been a while since we visited the delightful works of Javier Senosiain in Mexico! I tried to do some more research on the Flower House (Casa Flor) but it seems that everybody only writes about his Nautilus House. So, off we go down the path less chosen.

While there aren't a lot of pictures for this house, it appeals to my wish for a central courtyard and the rooms of the house off to the sides, like petals of a flower.

The glass work is outstanding and we all know what a sucker I am for big color....

Art Photography - Pol Tergejst

Some photography eye candy from photographer Pol Tergejst to start off 2013 - these images were composed by the artist using flame shapes combined with burnt matches.

I love the idea of using the natural shapes created by flames and smoke as components of art. Genius.

Lost Time by Glithero

How about some pre-holiday sculpture with Guadiesque origins? You in? I thought so....

British design team Glithero created this lovely installation for Design Miami. The piece references Gaudi's method for creating the shapes that would become   Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. In place of a mirror, Glithero used a long pool of water to create the reflection, which coincidentally also gave the impression of champagne bubbles (Perrier-Jouët Champagne sponsored the installation.)

What I love about this is the creation of shapes over the reflection of water, the whole thing is just stunning.

Harbin Temple by SunRay Kelley, Architect

I've recently become enchanted by the work of SunRay Kelley, a cob builder decorating the West Coast with natural hand-made structures.

We'll start with his project, a Living Temple for Harbin Hot Springs. The structure is used for yoga and meditation. You'll be seeing more of SunRay's work here, so I've already assigned him a tag!
