Listening to Wikipedia

Oh, the cleverness.

Coders Mahmoud Hashemi and Stephen LaPorte have created this very cool little application that virtualizes an orchestra based on edits to Wikipedia. Every Wikipedia edit creates a sound, the higher the pitch, the smaller the edit.

Chimecco Interactive Chime by Mark Nixon

I was thinking the other day about content sharing and why I started this blog. There are so many amazing things out in the world that ingenious artists have created that aren't hanging on walls somewhere behind glass barriers or velvet ropes.

Art that you can interact with, touch and listen to is so much more important. It becomes part of your life, part of your world. Remembered long after you've forgotten the piece of art you couldn't touch or interact with.

Chimecco by architect/artist Mark Nixon is a perfect example - an interactive wind chime that can be played by walkers on the bridge above. Wind will also create sounds naturally (similar to the Aeolus Wind Pavilion.)

Go make something today and change the world.....

Interactive Light Sculpture by WhiteVOID

Just because I cannot resist cool interactive installations involving light (and water.)

This one uses 12,000 ping pong balls, motion sensors, a pool of water, and high speed laser projectors.

LED Bulb Maze

I was attracted to this at first glance as an event entry idea - what a great way to disrupt your audience and change their frame of view before they reach your primary event floor.

This installation at Belém Cultural Centre in Lisbon, Portugal was (of course) designed to showcase IKEA's new line of LED bulbs - a noteworthy development in itself. Put me down as in support of art AND energy efficiency.

Rain Room by Random International

I so totally want to walk through the Rain Room and sit on a dry park bench with a cup of tea while the rain pours around me ...and I stay completely dry.

I bet that experience totally rocks.

Water Light Graffiti by Antonin Fourneau

Many moons ago when I was working for Nickelodeon, a line producer one day snarked to our show producer, "Water, kids, and electricity. What could possibly go wrong?"

That said, I would really love to know how Antonin Fourneau managed to make this very cool interactive lighting exhibit waterproof enough to not fry when doused with liquid.

I mean, if I can't manage to keep the same keyboard functioning for more than 6 months because I managed to spill water/coffee/wine/tea onto it, how can he keep this LED wall from fritzing out with so much exposure to water?

Inquiring minds want to know.

ORBs - Interactive Lighting Art from Urbanbotics

It is well established that I lurves me some interactive art, yes? Danish artists Urbanbotics created these amazing orbs that react to voice and music. What I love most is that when confronted with unpleasant sounds, they go and hide in the seabed. I can totally relate to that idea, being a rather sound sensitive person myself.

More beauty, wonder, and whimsy in the world, please!

Sonumbra Interactive Art Lighting by Loop.ph

Interactive art lighting...I'm there. UK design research studio Loop.ph created this wonderful canopy out of electroluminescent fibers which respond to movement by creating patterns.
